Two minds

‘Now the mind of the flesh [which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit] is death [death that comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter]. But the mind of the [Holy] Spirit is life and [soul] peace [both now and forever].’ (Romans 8:6 AMP)

What is this saying? It says some of us have the ‘mind of the flesh’ and some of us have the ‘mind of the Holy Spirit’. The difference is life and death so how can you be sure you have life? Verse 1 of the same chapter tells us:-

‘THEREFORE, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty
of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit.’ (Romans 8:1 AMP)

How can we be ‘in Christ Jesus’?
This we do by believing He is God’s Son who made a way for us to have a personal relationship with God through Him and by committing our lives to Him:-

‘But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name– .’ (John 1:12 AMP)

This we can all have – its free … in fact we can’t earn it or work at it …

‘For it is by free grace (God’s unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God; Not because of works [not the fulfillment of the Law’s demands], lest any man should boast. [It is not the result of what anyone can possibly do, so no one can pride himself in it or take glory to himself.] (Ephesians 2:8, 9 AMP)

Salvation is therefore a free gift. We can’t earn it. We can only accept it.
Wow – what a gift!

Father God, thank you for this treasure we have in Jesus. Thank you for making salvation available to us through his death and resurrection. Thank you for sending your spirit to live within all who accept Jesus as their saviour. This alone makes it possible for us to exchange the ‘mind of the flesh’ for the ‘mind of the Spirit’ – making it possible to always live out of that place where Your Spirit gives life and peace – now and forever!!
Thank you Lord, Amen!
