โBe still and know that I am Godโ
(Psalm 46:10).
I love this verse. Many times over the course of my life, I have meditated on these precious words. When life was too difficult to bear and I didnโt understand why, I would sit with these words and let them really sink in. Sometimes you have to come to the end of yourself before you can let go and let God be God! We have a tendency to try to be self sufficient and independent but we forget God knows the end from the beginning and He has plans for our good in mind.
โFor I know the plans I have for you,โ declares the Lord, โplans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart…โ
Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NIV)
I have found great strength in times of weakness, sadness, doubt or trouble, by recognising that I do not know nor can I control the circumstances surrounding me. The only influence I have is how I react to these circumstances. I have learned that, in placing my trust in God, there is a source of power beyond my comprehension, made available to the soul who cries out with honesty to him.
The following quotation from Amy Carmichael is, in my experience, very true and worthy of some serious thought. I think it links well to Psalm 46:10;
โSo wait before the Lord: Wait in the stillness. And in the stillness, assurance will come to you. You will know that you are heard; you will know that your Lord ponders the voice of your humble desires; you will hear quiet words spoken to you yourself, perhaps to your grateful surprise and refreshmentโ
